Transition Activities

Transition Activities

At this time of Year at school, we would be spending time together to reflect on our time in Year 2 and look forward to meeting our new teacher's. This is something we can still do at home.

When you come back to school in September, you will spend lots of quality time with Miss Robinson or Miss Vardy getting to know each other. You might already be thinking about your new teacher, so we’ve put together a list of activities you might like to complete this week or over the Summer break.

·        You could create a Year 2 memory book of your favourite things we did and learnt about. You could add pictures or drawings of your friends, be as creative as you would like!

·        Try creating a bucket list of books you want to read over the Summer and tell your new teacher all about.

·        Write your own profile to give to your teacher to let them know all the amazing things about you!

·        You could use the template underneath to create a new class passport.

There are lots of other things you might want to try to help you feel ready to start your new class. Remember if you have any worries, it’s important to tell your grown ups. Please email year2@hilltop.doncaster.sch.uk if you want to contact Miss James or Miss Elliott.

For our final four lessons of English, we are going to work towards writing a letter to your new teacher.

This week you will find out who your Year 3 teacher will be and they are both so amazing!

Do you have any questions about Year 3 for Miss Robinson or Miss Vardy?

A question sentence is a sentences that usually requires a response. It starts with a capital letter and finishes with a question mark. ?

Please write 5 questions you would like to ask your new teacher.

Example
Will I have P.E with Coach Callum in Year 3?
What will we learn about in Year 3?

Lesson 3

LO: To draft a letter

Time to start planning your letter.

It has been a long time since we wrote a letter. Can you remember what it needs to start with?

Task

Can you complete the sentences to create a short letter to your new teacher?

Dear ______

My name is ________

I would like you to know that I _________

I would like to ask you about _______

From _________________

English: Week 15

Hello Year 2!

It was so lovely to ‘see’ lots of you at our small groups quizzes and class story times last week!

This week’s English work is a little different from what we have been doing. As we are nearing the end of our time in Year 2, I wanted you to focus and think about some of your key skills that you will still need to use every day in Year 3.

Day 1

LO: To use capital letters and full stops.

First we are going to think carefully about our capital letters and closing punctuation.

A capital letter is used at the start of a sentence or for a name.

Follow the link to a video with a more detailed explanation.

Task

Please re-write the sentences in your best handwriting, adding the capital letters and full stops in the correct places.

Day 2

LO: To use conjunctions.

Today we are going to think about joining sentences together. A conjunction joins sentences and extended them.

Task

Can you choose the conjunction that fits each sentence? Remember to read them carefully.

Day 3

LO: To use conjunctions.

Yesterday you selected the correct conjunctions to make sentences make sense.

Today you are thinking of how to extend sentences with specific conjunctions.

 Task

Look carefully at the start of each sentences and the conjunctions chosen. In your best handwriting, can you extend your sentences?

Day 4

LO: To revise our punctuation and grammar skills.

Sometimes we only need a quick refresher for our skills learning.

Task

Can you complete each individual task to revise your skills?

Science Week 15

Science Week 15

This week we are focusing on healthy eating. A few weeks ago we did some other Science learning about healthy eating. We are going to re-visit this learning as it is really important.

In Year 2, we need to be able to answer the following questions.

How do animals grow differently?
What do animals need to survive?
Why is it important that humans exercise?
Why is it important that humans eat the right amounts of food?

We also need to be able to understand and use the following vocabulary…

6th July 2020 Activities

 Lesson 1

What is a healthy diet for humans?

All animals need different types of food. To have a healthy balanced diet, humans need a range of food types.

Task

Can you design a healthy balanced meal based on the lots, some or only a little idea?

Think about what you should have lots of on your plate and what might just be a treat!

Lesson 2

Thinking carefully about our diets.

We call the things we eat our ‘diet’.

Looking at our diet can tell us if we are already eating healthily, or if we could improve our eating habits.

Task

Can you use the format below to evaluate your diet?

Thinking about the good things that you eat and about what you would like to improve.

For example Miss James might say..

Three good things – I like to eat fruit. I get protein from chicken and fish. I like to eat salad vegetables.

Three things that would make my diet better – Drinking more water. Getting more calcium from yogurt as I don’t drink milk. To drink less fizzy pop.

Remember we love to see all your learning!
