English Week 6
I hope you are
enjoying our new text Dolphin Boy!
This week we are
going to re-visit a genre we covered with Paddington Bear.
Diaries!
Lesson 1
LO: To understand
new vocabulary
This week we are
going to be writing a diary entry, as if you were the Dolphin Boy!
Before we start
looking at diary entries and what they need to include, I want to set you a
vocabulary challenge this week!
Can you include
these new words in your learning this week?
Today’s task is
all about making sure you understand the word/ phrase.
raggedy
in spite of
hauling
helm
shallows
quay
longed
crammed
Task 1
Can you use a dictionary or online search engine to find the meaning on these words?
Task 2
Can you put them
into your own exciting sentences?
Lesson 2
LO: To read as a
writer
When we begin our
writing, we must think about what our writing needs to include.
Can you discuss
these questions with a grown up? Or just have a little think to yourself.
What is a diary? Why
do we write them? What are they usually about?
Follow the link to
find a video all about diary entries.
Below I have
included a diary written by Paddington.
I’m hoping you
remember this from school!
5.11.2019
Dear Diary
What a fantastic
day I’ve had! I couldn’t believe it when Dad found the strangest bear at the
train station.
First, we got him
into a huge, black taxi and travelled quickly to our house. The driver was very
irate because Paddington got sticky, orange marmalade all over the interior!
When we got home, we tried to give Paddington a bath. What were we thinking? He
created a gigantic mess, as water and soap went all over the clean bathroom.
Next it was time
for tea. Paddington would only eat marmalade sandwiches. I tried to tell him
that they were only for children, but he just ignored me. He cheerfully ate it
and then decided he wanted to go to bed!
Once he went to
sleep, I finally felt like I could go to sleep. What mischief can we get up to
tomorrow?
