Week 10 Maths
Shape
In Maths this
week, we would like you to work on your understanding of 2D shape Year 2.
Each lesson has an
image that when you click on it will enlarge to create a worksheet. If you do
not have a printer, record your answers on a piece of paper.
Below are some
links to websites with shape games that you can play online.
Lesson 1
LO: To identify 2D
and 3D shapes
A 2D shape is
known as a ‘flat’ shape. It has two dimensions. Length and width.
A 3D shape has three dimensions. Length, width
and depth.
Can you match the
shapes to their names?
We’ve done lots of
2d shape in school, but here is a video to support with your 3D shape names.
Lesson 2
LO: To count sides
of 2D shapes
Sides are the
straight lines that make up a shape. You can also count curved lines.
Can you answer the
following questions by counting the sides?
Lesson 3
LO: To count
vertices of 2D shapes
Vertices are the
corners that join the sides of a shape. Where two lines meet a vertex is created.
Count the vertices
on the 2D shapes and answer the following questions.
Lesson 4LO: To identify lines of symmetry on 2D shapes
A line of symmetry
is a line that creates a mirror reflection. If you folded a shape in half down
using a line of symmetry the sides and vertices would meet. Please follow the
link for a more in depth explanation.
Complete the work
sheet, or try cutting out your own shapes and fold in half to investigate lines
of symmetry.
Lesson 5
LO: To sort 2D
shapes
Time to put your
learning altogether.
Remember you can
send your learning to us at year2@hilltop.doncaster.sch.uk
